Well Christmas is over with all it's business and stress, and now I'm enjoying the rest. We had a lovely time with our daughter, Dana and her family yesterday. Our Christmas seems to go on and on (we still have one more family get-together when we'll exchange the last of the gifts). Looking back I can see it did get a little crazy!
On Friday we had a little Christmas party at our home and I was rushing around doing some last minute shopping. The traffic was horrendous, and I was on my cell phone (don't say it) when I decided to make a left turn out of a parking lot to beat some of the traffic, and I have to admit this, ignoring the "Do not enter" sign I saw through the corner of my eye. Immediately I saw a police car a few yards away in the line of traffic put his lights on. My heart began to pound and I quickly put it in reverse and started backing up. I did not look forward in the hope that he was going after someone else - I just kept backing up slowly turning into the parking lot. I had Christmas carols playing loudly and thought if I ignored him he would just disappear I guess. Well, still holding the phone to my ear, above the loud Christmas music, all of a sudden I could hear very loud and clear "HOLD IT! HOLD IT RIGHT THERE! STOP! I SAID S T O P!!" He was using the police megaphone, because apparently I never heard the siren. (All that stopped traffic must have been very entertained!). I thought since I could no longer ignore him and hope he goes away, I'd better turn off the radio and put down my phone. At this point he gets out of the car and comes up to my window (my heart's really pounding now, and I'm praying to God for mercy, even though I know I don't deserve it). He's really upset and tells me that if I was not on the phone I would have seen the "no entry" sign. I told him that I did see it and that's why I was backing up (really!). He said a few more things, turned on his heels, walked back to his car (I assumed to radio in my license or something), and then did an amazing thing! He drove away ! I continued to sit there for a while until I was sure he was really gone, and began thanking God for His mercy, and asking His forgiveness. Wow, I got away! I don't think I'll try that again! Christmas can make you do some crazy things!

great story Mom. I have no doubt I would have been ticketed to the fullest extent of the law. You have a way with people =)

wow Allison, it sounds like you have a lot of intersting experiences, and you really do "enjoy life!" I'm in Harrisburg as well. Wouldn't it be neat if our paths crossed sometime? Take care, Bob

How funny! I'm with Sean, though. I'd have been raked nicely. Maybe he got a call about a robbery or some real crime and decided to take off.

Maybe he had mercy on you since you have a British-sounding accent "and probably didn't know better." Hey, at least you were on the right side of the street. =)

Hi Mrs. S! Sean told me about your blog the other night and I found it, but did not have time to leave a comment - a kid or two was screaming for my attention. :)

I guess this story had a happier ending then the time when I was with you and you got a ticket! :) Good memories, he he. See you Sunday!

Hey Allison ... good going! This will make it very easy for me to keep up with the family's news.

I have a bit of news ... I think I might be psychic! I'm getting 'vibes' about your new friend Bob. He SAYS he lives in Harrisburg ... I sense that he might have lived in Harrisburg once upon a time. He may actually have been in Harrisburg when he posted the comment ... but my 'gift' is telling me he likely lives out West now. And that your paths might actually HAVE passed.

Impressive talent, eh!

ha ha ha! Auntie Margie is very perceptive. It's a good thing she clued Mom in before excessive freaking out occurred. Mom's blog career was about to be shortlived. All I can say is it was Dad's idea, and besides, there's nothing funnier than a good holiday prank...

The ONLY time I ever wore curlers in my hair while driving, I got stopped by a policeman! He only gave me a warning. Your story was quite funny!! Beware when Joe becomes a policeman-he may stop any of us just to scare us!

Finally I learned how to delete comments! (No offence Vicki, but your comment came through twice). I tried so hard to delete the "anonymous" Bob's comment but I couldn't think clearly. In fact I was alone and really had to work through some fear. (Hey, you guys got me good, but I'm better off for it! BUT YOU BETTER NOT TRY THAT AGAIN or I'll get you good!)
